Welcome to the Llangollen Art - Gallery!
All my oil paintings and ink drawings feature landscapes, properties and historic landmarks in beautiful Wales.
Since 1997 some of my paintings have received a great deal of media coverage in newspapers and magazines across Wales and the border counties.
I was born in the Foel, Montgomryshire in Mid Wales. Our very big house had an unusual feature it was slate fronted as well as having a slate roof. I attended Ysgol y Banw in Llangadfan, and I think my interest in art started there when I was about 7 yrs old. I remember painting our family home when I was 8 years old, a farm in Chwilog near Pwllheli. This was my first property painting, I still have it to this day.
My keen interest in art led me to the Denbighshire School of Art in Wrexham to study Graphic & Commercial Design, Photography & Cinematography. After gaining my Diploma in Graphics and Photography I went onto the L.S.I.A. course, Licenship to the Society of Industrial Artists. It was very enjoyable but art was at the time not to be my destiny as I moved from Wales to Birkenhead and the Laird School of Photography to pursue a City & Guilds in Photography.
In 1974 I joined the BBC Wales Film Unit in Cardiff as a Trainee Cameraman. Later the same year I qualified as a Professional Cameraman, filming the Powys Eisteddfod in Corwen. I have travelled all over Wales filming news events and documentaries, including Royal Visits. During this time I discovered many beautiful locations which one day I shall return to, but this time with my paintbrush and sketchbook instead of a camera.
